Dr. Fida Al Shams is a distinguished Speech and Language Therapist, academic, rehabilitation practitioner, and professional leader who has made significant contributions to the advancement of rehabilitation sciences and Speech and Language Therapy in Bangladesh. Recognized as one of the pioneering rehabilitation practitioners in the field of Speech and Language Therapy, he combines extensive clinical expertise with academic leadership, research, and professional advocacy.
He graduated in Speech and Language Therapy from the Bangladesh Health Professions Institute (BHPI), Faculty of Medicine, under the University of Dhaka. He subsequently earned a Master of Public Health (MPH) from ASA University Bangladesh (ASAUB) and was awarded a Fellowship from the University of Melbourne, Australia, further strengthening his expertise in public health, rehabilitation, and professional development.
Dr. Fida Al Shams currently serves as an Assistant Professor and Senior Consultant at MCPHS, where he is actively engaged in teaching, clinical supervision, professional training, and academic development. With more than five years of teaching experience, he has contributed substantially to the education and professional growth of students and healthcare professionals through teaching, mentorship, curriculum development, and academic supervision.
Alongside his academic responsibilities, he serves as a Consultant Speech and Language Therapist at Bangladesh Therapy & Rehabilitation Foundation (BTRF), Mohammadpur, Dhaka. His clinical work focuses on the assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and management of individuals with speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders across the lifespan.
His professional development includes Advanced Autism Management Training and Bangla Sign Language Training from the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP), Bangladesh. He has authored and co-authored several scholarly publications and has actively participated in numerous national and international conferences, seminars, workshops, and continuing professional development programs.
Dr. Fida Al Shams is one of the founding members and currently serves as the President of the Society of Speech and Language Therapists (SSLT). Through this leadership role, he has played a vital part in promoting professional standards, strengthening professional networks, advocating for rehabilitation services, and advancing the recognition and development of the Speech and Language Therapy profession in Bangladesh.
His key areas of academic and professional interest include Speech and Language Therapy education, rehabilitation sciences, public health, professional ethics, healthcare leadership and administration, research methodology, and evidence-based clinical practice. Through his clinical service, academic contributions, research activities, and professional leadership, Dr. Fida Al Shams continues to make a lasting impact on the rehabilitation sector and the development of Speech and Language Therapy in Bangladesh.
